Credible Roots / Field Notes

Field Notes

What we have learned building public credibility

Plain answers about distribution, personal branding, and the credibility layers they eventually produce, including the parts that are usually oversold. If something is not possible, we say so here rather than in the first invoice.

Researched against primary sources, drafted with AI assistance, then reviewed and approved by the named author. How we write · About the author

Three questions come up in almost every conversation we have, and the honest answers are not the ones the industry usually gives. Can you buy a Wikipedia page? No, and understanding why changes what you should spend money on. How do you get a Google knowledge panel? There is no form, so the work is entirely upstream. Why does ChatGPT name someone else in your field? Usually because there is more retrievable, corroborated material about them than about you.

These notes answer those questions in full, including the limits. Wikipedia notability is decided by volunteer editors against a documented standard, knowledge panels are generated by Google rather than submitted to it, and AI answer engines cite what they can retrieve and verify. None of that can be bought, which is precisely why knowing how it works is worth more than a sales page.

Do it yourself

The whole workflow, written so you can run it without us. Including an honest count of the hours it takes.

Distribution

Where all of this actually starts. Visibility first, credibility second, and the encyclopedia entry a long way after that.

Wikipedia

What the encyclopedia actually requires, why it sits years downstream of everything else, and what nobody can sell you.

Google & AI search

How the systems that answer questions about you decide what to say.

Wikidata

The structured record machines read first. One reference covering what it is, whether you qualify, and how to build an item that survives.

Crawlers & access

The mechanical layer that decides whether an answer engine can reach you at all.
